April 1

April 1, 2011~

It is April Fools Day. So where did the idea of April Fools day come from? Well, I turn to google, and it is just a click away. Here is what I learned.

April Fool’s Day first occurred in 1582 when Pope Gregory XIII changed the Christian world from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar.
When the calendar was changed, this change had the effect of changing the date of the New Year to January 1st. During that era, the celebration of the New Year corresponded with the first week of spring throughout  most of Europe. The first of April was then the day of celebration of the New Year.
When the calendar was changed, there was no longer a reason for celebrating the day. Since many didn’t readily accept the calendar change, they were called fools, and this is the origin of where April Fools Day came from. Many tricks were played on the ones that still clung to the old calendar, and thus this is the answer to my question.
France accepted the calendar change in 1582, when the Pope sent the decree. Many people didn’t accept the change, however, and still celebrated April 1st as the New Year. As such, those who embraced the new calendar began to ridicule those people, calling them “traditionalists.” Over the next few years, people began to play tricks on the traditionalists on April 1. They would send invitations to non-existent parties and send them on “fools” errands and try to convince them of things that were untrue.
Okay, so according to google this is the history of April 1st, but no April Fool’s day pranks here today!
Happy For A Reason reason’s:
1.    Bread got baked! Ahhh… the house smells so good!
2.    Our satellite has not been working since our “big” storm, so yesterday I called to have someone come fix it. They were able to come this morning and fix it!
3.    Much to my surprise and happiness, fixing the satellite didn’t end up costing us a thing! A true blessing!
4.    A gorgeous day! I believe this is the first day we have been able to go outside for any length of time and not wear a coat or sweater!
5.    I could run to town and run two errands for Ron….not something I wanted to do but it brought happiness to my heart because I could help Ron so he could keep working.
