August 10

August 10, 2011 ~

Thought for the Day

“If men could regard the events
of their own lives
with more open minds,
they would frequently discover

that they did not really desire the things
they failed to obtain.”

~ André Maurois
(1885-1967)

A day of mixed emotions, tears, and laughter. The highlight of the day was meeting Alissa’s friend at REI. We ran in ahead and hid in an area of the store where we could watch him come in. He figured out right away that we were hiding. With a confidant smile he headed up the stairs, with a triumphant smile on his face, knowing he would find us very quickly. As we watched him looking down to the lower level, we noticed the confident  smile changed to a more intent look as he scanned, what he thought was the whole store, yet missing us! We laughed so hard! He was a great sport about it! Oh, what fun!

Judy was on a mission today to pick up boxes of apricots for canning. I never see apricots without remembering my all time favorite sermon, my dad preached.  It was on Heaven and when he talked about the Tree of Life having 12 different kinds of fruit. “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” ~Revelation 22:1-3, NIV  Pastor Dean’s version says, “…twelve different kinds of apricots…”  Heaven cannot come soon enough!
Happy For A Reason Reasons:
1.       Being able to just sit and chat with Alissa. (Even if it was on the hard floor!)
2.       Fun time with Alissa and Andrew! Oh, to be young again!!!!
3.       Apricots! Ahhh….how tasty they are when canned, dried and don’t forget the jam!
4.       My sister Judy being willing to pick up 3 boxes of apricots for me! Now for them to ripen before we “get” to start canning!
5.       The picture of Heaven as described in Revelation!
