Whispers of His Wisdom by Dottie Barnett

                           WHISPERS OF HIS WISDOM~~~2011

                                                 Get Me Out Of Here!”

My husband, Harold, arrived on the job site early one morning and began making preparation to install a septic tank into a large hole he had dug the day before.  Upon turning off the engine of his truck, he heard the distant call of a man’s voice, “Help, get
me out of here!”

It didn’t take long for my husband to realize the call was coming from the depths of the pit he had dug the previous day.  To his surprise, trapped in the hole was the owner of the property, a very large man of some 300 pounds or more.  The story evolved that the man got too close to the edge of the hole and the earth caved in, taking him with it.  My husband ran for a ladder and with the help of one of his employees, managed to get the agitated captive out of the prison into which he had accidentally fallen.  The years since the incident have robbed us of an accurate memory of how long the gentleman had remained imprisoned before he was rescued.

In my reading recently, I came across another experience of a young man who had also fallen into a pit.  Having been involved in a scheme of deception, he was running for his life, away from all he knew and loved.

One night, as he lay upon the ground under a mantle of stars, the repentant fugitive felt completely forsaken.  Alone there in the desert, he had no one to save him from the depths to which he had fallen.  However, that night as he slept, he had a dream.  Someone had slipped a ladder down from the heavens.  The base of the ladder rested on the sand nearby.
He then heard the words, “I am with you and will keep you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done all I have promised you.”  The young man’s isolation and loneliness vanished.  His heart was now filled with peace and courage regarding his future.

The mystic ladder which the young man, Jacob, saw in the dream is symbolic of the connection between Heaven and earth, Jesus Christ.  The activity taking place upon the ladder reveals more fully His character of devotion and loyalty.  The angels, descending and ascending the ladder, ministering to the young man’s needs, is a reminder of Christ’s compassion for us, His faithful efforts to bring comfort and peace when most needed.

We are never far removed from the incredible presence of his love as we await our rescue from thiss pit of sin, planet earth.  We must simply call upon Him for help and He will answer, “Surely, I am coming quickly.”  Rev. 22:20
